D4910: Periodontal Maintenance
Definition
D4910 is the CDT code for the ongoing maintenance cleaning given to a patient after active periodontal treatment, such as scaling and root planing.
Why it matters for the front desk
Once a patient has had periodontal treatment, their recall visits are usually D4910, not D1110, and often every three or four months. Many plans count D4910 and D1110 toward one shared limit, and some pay D4910 at the cleaning rate. A patient on a three month schedule can run out of covered visits before the year ends, so share the cost of extra visits early.
