D0150: Comprehensive Oral Evaluation
Definition
D0150 is the CDT code for a comprehensive oral evaluation of a new or established patient, a full exam of the teeth, gums and soft tissue.
Why it matters for the front desk
D0150 is usually billed at a new patient's first visit, or when an established patient returns after a long gap or a major health change. Many plans limit it, for example to once per dentist or once every few years, and some pay it at the lower D0120 rate. When a new patient's comprehensive exam comes back paid as a periodic exam, the difference often lands on the patient, so check the plan's limit when the appointment is booked.
