D1110: Prophylaxis, Adult
Definition
D1110 is the CDT code for an adult cleaning: removal of plaque, calculus and stains from the teeth and implants in the permanent and transitional dentition.
Why it matters for the front desk
D1110 is a routine cleaning for a patient with healthy gums or mild gingivitis. Most plans cover two per year, and many also set the age at which a child's cleaning (D1120) becomes an adult one, so check the plan's rule for teenagers. D1110 is not the right code for a patient with periodontal disease; those patients are usually seen for D4910 maintenance, and billing the wrong one causes denials or underpayment.
