D1351: Sealant, Per Tooth

Definition

D1351 is the CDT code for a sealant, a protective coating applied to the chewing surface of a tooth to help prevent decay, billed per tooth.

Why it matters for the front desk

Sealant coverage is narrow. Many plans cover sealants only on permanent molars, only up to a certain age, and only once per tooth in a set number of years. A sealant placed on a premolar or on a patient past the age limit is often the parent's bill. Confirming which teeth and ages the plan covers before the appointment lets the team give families an accurate cost.
