D2950: Core Buildup, Including Any Pins When Required
Definition
D2950 is the CDT code for rebuilding missing tooth structure so that a crown has enough support to stay in place.
Why it matters for the front desk
D2950 is often billed with a crown and is one of the most frequently denied codes. Many payers treat a buildup as part of the crown unless the records show that not enough tooth structure was left to hold it. A pre-op x-ray, an intraoral photo and a short narrative describing the missing structure give the claim the best chance. Without them, expect a denial and an appeal.
